Quick Sportsman 500 question.....
#1
Okay guys....probably a really stupid question.... I'm changing all the fluids in my buddies 2000 sprstman 500. this will be a couple of firsts.....My first time changing fluids on a 500, and this sportsman 500's first time having and maintenance at all. It is a 2000, and has 100 miles on it. The thing looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor today. Anyway, my 700EFI has a rear gearcase with separate 80/90 wieght oil in it. It appears to my untrained eye, that this 500 has the rear gears enclosed in the same case as the tranny, and uses the tranny fluid for lubrication??? Is this correct?? If not, why can't I find a drain and fill plug back there?

I'm pretty sure you are talking about the transmission fluid. I already changed that. The fluid is Polaris AGL synthetic gear lube, and it is kind of purple/blue in color. But, My 700EFI has a seperate rear gearcase that takes 80/90. I can't find this gearcase on the 500, and assume it gets lubed by the tranny fluid. Anyone confirm this??
