Sp800 excessive heat on right side.

I'm suprised I have seen anyone on here complain about this. I love my Polaris but the heat that builds up on the right side at slower speeds when crawling trails bothers me. Not a big deal, I just move my leg, but you have to be constantly aware of where you leg is or by the time you feel the heat your boot is pretty dang hot! No one else has this problem? For the money these things cost I think Polaris could have put a better heat shield there. I know, at least the plastic isn't melting lol. I think I have a fix though. I used some header wrap on the section of the exhaust header that runs down the right side. I have't ridden since doing that due to a shoulder injury, but as soon as I do I'll report back. Hopefully that will resolve the problem.

Mine 2! Sent the header to Jet-Hot had sterling silver coat U would not believe the difference it made. the 07 had a service update on the heat shields and remapping the ECU to make it run a lil richer (cooler) too!

That is a very common ongoing problem with these machines.....In some cases the plastic has even melted.....Most guys I know have just added more heat tape to the plastic in that areaor have them Jet Hotted......I added an article below that you might be interested in....Good luck..

I knew it was common on older machines but though the problem had been fixed.
Thanks for the link. I used header wrap on my twin turbo mustang on all the hotside piping, which was already Ceramic coated. It made a HUGE difference in the underhood temps. The short length I wrapped on the Popo won't hurt any thing. I didn't wrap the whole header, I was wary of wrapping it up too close the the head. The biggest concern IMO wiht header wrap is it holds water and can cause corrosion left to sit wet.
UTU- I would believe it, I am very familiar with ceramic coating. Good stuff. I was looking for something quick and easy. Add some header wrap to that small exposed section and it should be even cooler than just the coating.
As for mapping it richer to run cooler, that works to an extent, get it too rich though and it has the opposite effect as raw fuel get burned up inside the header. I would hope that polaris did there home work though and would not have done that.

There is a replacement heat shield kit for them. Also if it melts the plastic the dealer should take care of it under warranty.
My dealer replaced the heatshields with the upgraded kit and warranty my plastic because it was starting to bubble.
The heat shields seemed to have helped quite a bit. I still notice it is warmer on that side, but not melting plastic, burning my leg warmth.
Also their is a flash to change the Fuel mixture to help the heat problem.
I do a lot of Low speed work, dragging my fields and running around moving compost, etc with the swisher bucket and it is much better now.

Mine is an 08 so I believe it has the new shields? The plastic seems fine, the shields protect it. But itt is the open area just rear of the shifter where the heat radiates out from the header, there is a area there where there is no shied on the header. Below and above that there is an alum. shield.
Eidt- just looked at the pic, looks like the shields I have. The largest one goes just below the seat on the right, the square one goes on the header pipes near the plastic in the shiter area, the area in between these to has no shielding. Like Big Bros said, it is just and annoyance for the most part. But mine does get hot enough to burn your leg. And in the heat we are having it also makes it that much hotter with the heat radiating up. I think the header wrap will make a marked difference.
