BBF.......
Good idea...I'm actually in the market for an 800 2 piece header pipe to put on my 700......Breese used to have them but I can't seem to find them right now.......I'll have to keep checking....I remember they were only like $152....

I just went out and rode it a little bit and so far it seems to have made a great improvement. A longer ride might change my mind, but it used to heat up pretty quick on the slow trail. Question now is how long will the wrap last. I coated it with some silicon/ceramic coating specifically made to protect header wrap.
Edit-went out for a much longer ride. The header wrap made a HUGE diffference. Right side is just as cool as the left now.

Pics of how I wrapped it. Before anyone says it,I know the bike is too clean, lol. Trust me it has been DIRTY. But I never put it away like that. Last time I wnet for a real ride it took 3 hours to get all the mud out it.

It looks like a bandage or a cast on a broken arm. I read somewhere, maybe on this forum, that wrapping the header can make the muffler hotter. I don't know if it's true but I would check a couple times to be sure it's not melting the plastic back there. My 500s have all been okay as long as it's moving 5-10 mph. If I play in a mud hole and heat it up then stop, it's HOT.

I resized the pic and uploaded it to Photobucket. Then copy the image code and paste it into your signature.

Jumbofrank-I'll keep and eye on that, thanks. It should cause them to heat up a little more, but I think it should not be much since I left quite a bit unwrapped between the head and what you see in the pic and also between the mufflers and where the wrap ends in the rear. Now if you wrapped the whole pipe I imagine you could get the mufflers glowing hot.

Yeah the thing I read was where they wrapped the whole header not just the part by your leg. The muffler should dissipate a lot of the heat because of the huge surface area. I think you're okay.

the excessive heat is more normal on the big twins as this is my 2nd 800 and both ran hotter then the singles. make sure you keep the radiator clean after mudding as any blockage will make it run even hotter. yes the 08's have the better heat sheild set up
