2002 Polaris Scrambler 500 Advise!
#1
I have a buddy who wants to buy a 2x4 2002 Polaris Scrambler 500.
Is there anything that he should look out for? any mods should be done? Anything to check before purchase. I own 2 660 raptors so i know what to look for in basics like "if its been rolled". I'm looking for anything to know about that quad specific.
Also i go to Pismo Dunes and is this bike going to be able to keep up with my 660s? How does this machine do in the sand? Hows the low end power/torque? Whats a good price on one of these? Any helpfull advise would be appreciated.

Thanks, will it keep up though? im not talking about dragging them, just keeping up at a good pace. Also how does it handle? Is it easy to slide around turns or is it tippy like the raptor?

I only rode a Scrambler a couple of times and it was a lot of fun. It will go as fast as I ever want to go on an ATV. They slide around curves pretty good IMO. I know a guy who wiped his out on a curve but he's a dick. I don't know what went wrong but it couldn't be HIS FAULT. You may know the type. Trees jump out in front of him after everyone else makes it by.

LOL yea those tree's always seem to jump out when I'm not looking. They seem to be sneaky! haha
My buddy wants a scrambler and he looking at on for about $2000, i told him to offer him 1500 and hope for the best. But to be honest i really don't know what one is worth. He has a 250 arctic cat so anything with more power is something he will like. But im sure when he becomes a better rider he will want to keep up on the rack too. I told him to get a 400ex but he hates to shift (go figure).

500 Scramblers will not only keep up but will smoke the other sport quads in the nasty hilly trails.
The biggest improvement is a clutch kit, airfilter and a pipe. The mods are endless for power and handling.

I don't think a stock Scrambler will win a lot of drag races but will do everything else really well. Being in the right gear at all times WILL let it blow right by other ATVs a lot of times, while other people are wasting time shifting. $2,000 is about what the trade in value is. The retail value is way higher. I'd buy it myself if it was in good shape.
There were a bunch of guys called the Indiana Scramblers. You can guess where, and what they rode. Their motto was: "We don't shift. We ride!" I like that. I like riding too, but not shifting. Some days I shift gears once or twice.
