Default 2000 polaris trail boss indicator light questions..

I recently bought a 2000 polaris trail boss around a month ago. I rode it hard for around 3 weeks and had no problems. about a week ago the first light to the left came on and has stayed on since...The problem is I dont know what the light is because the cover that goes over my indicator lights is missing. Can anyone tell me what it is or means? im assuming its an overheat light because i know the other two are reverse and neutral. When the engine is running it really doesnt sound like anything is wrong..another thing i should add is that the week the light came on, i changed the oil and filter with the polaris oil they gave me at the dealership, also filled the tank with premium fuel. I have read on some replies on the site that premium fuel could cause it to overheat. could this be the problem? Is there anything i can check to see if the engine is actually overheating? could it just be a bad sensor? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Branden

this an non liquid bike correct? i dont know what the light would be but i dont beleave its a hot light (could be wrong since ive never owned one, just a trail blazer) putting prem. fuel in is a waste of your money unless the engine has had some mods to it.hopefully someone w/ one of these bikes can tell you what light it is if its not a revese or netural light.

Can't remember which side the oil temp light is on.

If you put it in nuertal, does the light next to it (to the right) come on?

Then in reverse, does another light come on?

If so, then it is the oil temp light.

If it happens as soon as you turn it on, then I would suspect the problem lies in the indicator sensor.

I went out and looked at mine, but of course the oil light won't come on, so I couldn't tell you which side it's on. And it's never come on before.

Branden...

I have a 2000 TrailBoss 325. On my bike the light to the extreme left is the "HOT" light. It says HOT. I'm not sure just exactly what is supposed to be HOT, but that what it says. I too just recently bought this bike. This light has been on for awhile according to the guy I got it from. He said that he had it checked out by the dealer and they said it was a sensor. The sensor was supposedly too expensive, so he never had it fixed. This light comes on the second the engine fires up, so obviously its not HOT. I'll be checking into this condition and let you know what I come up with, if you will do the same for me.

Thanks

Wrench

The light is for the oil temp.

Check out places like Ronnies or other online parts stores for the part.

The price of the part is well under the price of a motor if the oil cooler ever does overheat.

The parts diagram shows 5 spaces for light bulbs in the "strip socket", but says there are only 4 bulbs in it. One empty space.

If one is the "hot" light, one is reverse, and one is neutral, that still leaves one more indicator light unaccounted for. What the heck is the other one for?

Default 2000 polaris trail boss indicator light questions..

i contacted a dealer and they contacted polaris....they said the five lights from right to left were hot, neutral, ignition, reverse, and oil....on the back of the actual five light strip however only the hot, neutral, and reverse actually have wires going to them...is there a way to tell if it is actually overheating or "hot"(like the the light says)? Like is it possible that maybe its just a bad sensor? Im kinda stuck to believing that its a bad sensor because the hot light actually never shuts off..Like ive said before I can let it sit for a couple of days, and go outside and turn the key and put the red switch in the middle to bring the lights up, and the light is already on..even without starting the engine and after it has been sitting there a few days..Then you start it and it doesnt really sound any different, but the light just stays on. I appreciate the help, Branden

It has to be a bad sensor or a short in the wiring.
