Hi new to this forum
I have a 04 honda 450, the problem is it won't start, cleaned out the carb, it has spark on the plug. It turns over like it almost wants to start but does not. It is a 4X4. Any suggestions or solutions to my problem
thanks

It ran good till about 2 weeks ago. then one day it did not want to start. I even pull start it and if I pull it for about 10 minutes it will start but not idol. I have currently removed the carb again and will soak it over night solution.
still puzzled.

How is the fuel line? Is there a restriction? I had to replace a fuel filter not too long ago that would slow the flow of gas. I strugled to keep it idleing but if I tried to give it any gas it would shut down.

I had the same problem with my 03 foreman 450s, it would crank and crank but would not start. My problem was I had NO compression to start the engine. The engine did not smoke or anything. I could get mine to start if I cranked and cranked the engine and sprayed starting fluid in the beather at the same time. It would run but would not idle and it did not smoke any. My rings and piston was bad. After about 450.00 for new piston, rings, wrist pin, c-clips, top end gasket set and I replaced the cylinded aswell. I installed the new parts and the engine turned over about 3-4 times an started right up and now runs like a new bike again. I would check the compression first thing. Put your finger over the spark plug hole and crank the engine with the starter motor be careful not to get shocked with the plug wire. The engine should blow your finger off the plug hole.
Hope this helps.

I just cleaned the carburator again, put a new plug in. I checked the compression by putting my finger over the spark plug hole and there seems to be intake compression, also on the exhaust. It does seem to want to try start more now than before, but spins and spins as if to start, but doesn't.
If its the pistons, what would it do? It had lots of power before, did not smoke?
any suggestions again thanks

My 03 450s ran fine and had tons or power when I could get it started but it was very very hard to start. I had to use starting fluid as I was cranking the engine and it would start but was very hard. It would not idle at all, But after I got the engine started it ran fine and seem to have tons or power with NO smoke. The engine did have some compression but not enuff to start the engine after I put new piston and rings in it I cant keep my finger on the spark plug hole it blows it off it has so much compression now. Before it had some compression but it wouldnt blow my finger off the plug hole. My 450 was running fine one day and it would not start the next. When the engine is warm like when your riding it the engine will start easier then a cold engine so the engine could have been down on compression for awhile and the last time you rode it the engine lost just a little more to the point it doesnt have enuff to start the engine. The engine is just a big air pump, if you are getting gas and spark the engine should run if you have good compression and no damage to any of the internal parts. I work on Harley Davidsons everyday and my 4 wheelers some I have seen alot of crazy stuff with these engines. I have seen timing chains break when the engine was tuned off and when they went to start it, the engine would not and they had just turned it off 10 minutes before. So, anything can happen. Hope you find your problem but if I was betting I would put my money on the piston and rings. 03deuce
