Gotta buddy wanting to get in the game. He wants a 4x4, maybe 400cc but he can only spend about $2500. Selectable 4x4 preferred. What years, makes, and models fit this profile? Please help me find him a bike. I need someone to ride with!

 

A used Honda Rancher is a good bet. Sweet handling little trail quad! These things will run forever, with just some minimal maintenance! Do be wary of the ES shifting option. Lots of posts in here about trouble with it.

The older 350's had full-time 4wd, but that can be fixed with a Warn 424....

 

I think that there were very few if any made after 2002 that were not selectable 4wd/2wd. There will be a large selection of the 2000 to 2003/4 models that should fall into his price range. Every manufacturer has something inthe 400 cc range.

Thanks for the replies fellas. I've been looking around also and I didn't realize how many quality used bikes could be had for $2500. I found a buddy with an 04 Suzuki Eiger 4x4 for $2700 obo. He's got 4000 miles on it. They are gentle miles though. He's 55 years old and almost blind. No driver's license, just a quad to get around his 170 acres. Good deal?
