Default 04 Slippin Grizzly

Hello Gents,
I just joined the forum tonight.
I have an 04 Grizzly 660 which the float stuck and filled my engine with Gas, which pushed all the oil out the vent tube.
I didnt change the oil for a few days, When I did with new oil and Filter. I now have slippage in mid throttle acceleration.
Did the gas damage my clutch? or what gives?

First Problem I have ever had with my Griz.

Thanks for your input,

Straight Arrow

You might need to do more than one oil change to get all the gas. ??

I have changed the oil twice , because I could still smell gas on the dip stick. The oil I used was sae 20w50 valvaline 4 stroke motor cycle oil for wet clutches . Maybe I should get some yamalube. I also just installed 27" mud lite xtr tires on ss212 rims I sure do notice the power loss especially at take off . I have been told that all I need is a clutch weight & spring kit , is that true and how hard is it to do .Which brand is best. Thanks for your input Straight Arrow

I have never worked on that kind of clutch. Is it possible that the gas washed out some of the grizz grease?

the valvoline atv oil should not be a problem. i have heard good things about that. maybe the gas washed the clutches. does that vehicle have a clutch adjustment on the left side of the case? it should be a slotted bolt with a nut tightened down on it and it will say increase and decrease around it. id try adjusting the clutch. loosen the locknut and turn the shaft screw one quarter to one half a turn then lock the nut down. then try riding it. if it just simply needs adjusting, you should not have to turn that screw too much. yamaha suggests adjusting the clutch every 6 months in one quarter to one eighth increments. hope that helps.

The clutch grease(ultramatic lube) wont be effected by the gas in the oil. Totally separate systems...motor oil doesnt get near the primary clutch, as it is external of the motor case..
Its posible the gas has washed the wet clutch clean...but it should be lubed by now, after 2 oil changes.
Its posible the 27"s are causing the slippage. Is it posible to reinstall the stock wheels and tires and try it out?

So combining cadillacdude and hondabuster maybe the clutch is not well adjusted and now the 27s are pushing it over the edge so the slipping is a problem. When it all happens at the same time gas gets in the oil it is hard to tell what causes what. Good things to know.

Hey guys Ive been on vacation for 10 days , just got back Thanks for your input I talked to a machanic at a small yamaha shop while away He said I need a new clutch and outer assembly $515.00 for parts + 1.75 hr. labor plus a clutch weight & spring kit for the 14" ss 212 rims & 27"mud litextr's . I wonder ? I'll take a look at the left side clutch adjustment idea. By the way the gas in oil and slippage was before the new tires & wheels .! thanks Straight Arrow
