2008 honda rancher oil change
#1
I just changed the oil of my 2008 honda rancher 4x4 ES. As of now I just put in 3 quarts of oil. when I open the dip stick, I don't see a mark that indicate how much oil it is supposed to have.
do you know how high the oil should be in the dipstick?
thank you.

HondaMechanic.....if you look at the oil chart, they are suggesting 0W30/5W30 as year round/all temperature oils! What do you think of that???
On a 100 degree summer day, I don't think I want to be running 0W30 instead of a 10W40....

Interesting that the high viscosity oils recommended by Honda in the past (like 20W40 and 20W50), are gone. I do notice that Honda's own 0W30 (in the red bottle) is a full synthetic.

I just went thru trying to find Honda oil, which is not easyly done even on the net. Hodna's website only lists two oils for ATV's. Dino 10w40 and a 10w40 synethic. I found a Honda dealer with dino 10w40 in stock. Case was $61 delivered.
A interesting note about oil viscosity. When I bought my 02 PSD, 10w40 was the only oil I could find although many company's spec'd they made 10w30 but it's just plain not for sale. So Delo 10w40 was my pick as it has such a strong reputation for a quality diesel motor oil.
A PSD uses rail hydraulic injectors. Going thru the service manual I read where there was higher injection pressures obtained with 10w30 than could be obtained with using 10w40.
Using 10w30 in this case would allow for slightly better fuel mileage as the fuel would atomize finer thus achives a hotter burn with less fuel according to the Ford engineers. That explained why I lost 1mpg when I started using 10w40 oil.

i use honda brand oil in both my honda and king quad (have used suzuki oil in the quad in the past, but mechanic at the local dealership said its okay to use honda oil in the suzuki). i buy it right from the local dealer, who has it in stock. being from wisconsin, i run 5w30 all year.

I too had the same question when i had my 2000, I figured that one was just a fill hole and of course the other the dip stick. I also made the mistake of putting regular motor oil for a car in it and it made the clutches start slipping.... learned my lesson on that!
