Default Excessive exhaust heat cure - FINALLY!

After trying nearly everything to get rid of the excess exhaust heat on my 800 X2, I finally came across this. I bought one and have tried it for a few rides now - it works!! During a slow ride in low, when the heat was the worst before, you can actually reach down and touch this shield with your hand - it is that cool.

I was looking at this but was wondering if the traped heat would be to much to disapate and over heat????? I'm in Florida and ride in weather in the 90's.

same here zakazim, im in ft mccoy and it gets HOT on a dry day! i was just about to ask the same question. almost all of these heat shields must just reflect the heat back on the engine, and my hawkeye sometimes overheats as it is.

This sounds intriguing, but the heat doesn't just "Go Away" if you know what I mean.
Bad87 could you post some decent pics of how it looks/fits on your bike?

I would be interested in seeing those as I use my 800 a lot Low Speed, Workin'

TIA

I was wondering if this work also work http://www.bikernet.com/garage...eViewer.asp?PageID=750

Would it hold up to muddy water?

I used header wrap on mine and it works great. No more hot leg on slow trails(most of my riding). I painted the wrap with high temp paint made specifically for waterproffing header wrap. Also the wrap will only hold water if you put the machine up with the wrap wet. After washing mine I run it long enough to dry out the wrap, it doesn't take long for the exhaust heat to evaporate the water. You can order a sheat blanket very similar to the one above from Summit Racing for alot cheaper.

Those are all nice but they are designed to contain and or redirect heat NOT make your motor run cooler, if anything hotter - Ive tried many products such as these on many different stock & custom build motorcycles and thats what my experience has shown me. just my .02 worth

I too was concerned about the heat being redirected back to the motor, but I have not noticed my fan running any more often than it did before the shield, riding in temps of upper 80's.

I don't have any pics - the ones the guy has in his ebay auction show what it looks like. For install, you have to remove the seat, sidepanel on tank, and the rear fender. Then the shield has grommets in it that you run zipties thru and around the frame. The shield then just drapes down and tucks in behind the footwell.

It may not be for everyone, but for me it works great. I have a 2 year old that rides with me around the yard a lot, and he sits in front of me. His feet dangle right at the exhaust height, and we had plenty of soles start to melt when they bumped the exhaust. I tried the Polaris reflash to richen and lower exhaust temps, various ways of using header wrap, using some products inside the wrap, etc. Nothing made any real difference. With this we can ride without worrying about any melting - works for me!
