Default Polaris 500 HO Oil Change

When I was doing my oil change I followed the book and everything went good until i got to the filter on the oil reserves. It says to remove and clean but I could not get it off...Is it important to clean?? Does it have to been done everytime?? I did the rest of the change and put everything back together..

Its on pretty tight sometimes,un hook hose, use crescent wrench if necessary to turn, once off, just a small screen mesh on fitting to clean. Best to use teflon tape around threads when reinstalling, align outlet with mark on tank. I DONT always remove fitting, just on hard used machines and ones I know that are not serviced reguarly! Most of the time screen will be pretty clean if you do REGULAR maintenance (oil and filter changes at least twice yearly!) Good luck.
