My buddy & I were doing maintenance on our quads and when he drained his oil (crankcase), there was some gas that came pouring out with the oil. Now how would gas get in there? Worn rings maybe? He has an Explorer 400 and hadn't done an oil change in a long time.

Had he flooded the motor really bad recently??
THat's a possilbe cause.
Does he transport the quad in the back of a truck without turning off his gas? That can cause the same thing too.

I think you hit the nail right on the head. Yeah he transports his quad without shutting the gas. Thanks, I'll mention this to him.

I had the same problem with an old Suzuki LT250R,it was a bad seal between the engine case and tranny case.
Does your buddies quad smoke worse than normal?

Correct me if i am wrong ,But you said 400 Explorer Right, That is 2 stroke and you don,t change oil on a two stroke by draining the crank case. It does however have a counterbalancer Drain. Which takes 10w30 oil 3 Oz,s If i remember right. So if you have gas in there You better look further something Is leaking Like a seal or a crack somewhere.

You're right Dazed, 2stroke it is. When I receive my workshop manuel we'll have a better look at it.
