Default yamaha blaster carb help

i have a 99 blaster and it takes 1 kick in the winter to start but in summer it takes a lot more. when i ride when its hot it fouls the plug once in a while. its an aftermarket carb i thought the guy said its keihin but it says trenga racing on the side in a sticker. (i bought it not to long ago). how do jet it so it runs right? does it jus need more air? and it doesnt idle, does the main jet and the carb need cleaned out?

well it sounds like to me its set to rich or set for higher altitued !

you could clean the carb , and bend the float prong down a bit (towards the needle) , and try that, down gives less gas , up gives more.

if it runs better cold than hot it sounds to me that to much gas is getting past the needle.

now you could also change the needle , but giving it more air i cant see that fixing the problem, i would experament with changing the float setting, by bending the prong down towards needle, but dont bend it far , try a little at a time.

im sure that will fix your problem.
and cleaning the carb , cant hurt , and make sure you clean & blow out under the needle when u do it , just watch out for any rubber parts and or spings around or under the needle.

cheers
chris

Well w/out Actuly Seeing this Carb , Im not sure if yours has a Float or not , But most Bikes and Sleds Have a Float style Carb.

What it is :

bottom of carb :
When you take the Carb Apart : Loosen the four screws and Remove the Alluninum Bowl , Under it on most carbs , thier should be a Round Float , (Some have 2 Floats In them One on each side) , and Usuly thier is a Spring Sorta Attached to the Float And Needle that sits in a seat under the Float.

The Float(s) controls the Amount of fuel in the float bowl. And Can over Power any Jet Settings. Its the Main part of the Carbs , some Keihin Carbs Are like a tilson style and only have Gasket(s) with fuelPump. But Some are the Float Style , and i believe yours Would have this.

Anyway on the Float if its a soild round Alluninum Float thier Will be a Small tab where a small spring is or Just sitting over the needle , and thats the Part you would bend , the tab.
If your carb has 2 Floats thier will be a simular tab to bend , but would than be on a piece of tin insted of on the actual float.

And to bend it dont take much presure to bend them maby a 1/2 a pound ?

I hope that Awnsers your Question.

Default yamaha blaster carb help

sounds like your a little too rich, you usally have to rejet for the change of seasons, few questions, hows it run in summer? strong? also what oil mixture u using and hopefully ur using 90-93 octane at least which helps out on 2 strokers, also what kinda air filter setup u using? and are your running it with the airbox lid on? if so take it off to give it a little more air to compensate for the extra fuel its getting as another way to tell whats wrong, most likely you just need to pull the fuel bowl off and replace the main jet with a smaller size, i wouldnt mess with the float height until you know thats ok or it can become a pain when they get out of adjustment.

Default yamaha blaster carb help

yea i bought it in the winter the guy must have jetted it for the winter. in the summer it runs strong for about a couple hours then sometimes when i shift into my high gears it sometimes dont want to go that fast it keeps a consistent speed and then i kno my plug is gonna foul, it prob takes about 20 min. after it runs a lil shakey. i mix r50 synthetic and my ratio is 32:1 (20 ounces per 5 gallons) i dont run 90 93 and my air filter i jus put a new pre ready one on brand new. i rode it like that today. previously i rode a uni air filter with the air box off but it was doin the same thing anyway i put the air box on cuz i ride in dusty places. hope this answers all ur questions so u can help thanks o and should i run 90-93 gas?

yah you could try replacing the main jet first , but you would have to no what jet to get , and i can not tell you what one.

the bending of the float will do simular thing, but yah hes right , it can be a pain in the *** , if you over-do it.

If you could find out what jet you need , i may lean towards changing the jet and saving your old one for winter, to do that you would need to take the number off the carb and eathier post it here for some-1 to awnser it or take it to a dealer and tell them what you want. As new jets are not that expencive , probly only around $10

but the bending trick also works , if you got time to mess with it.

question : has that carb you got have a long needle that go`s into the plunger ( big slide with huge spring where throttle cable go`s ) right down into the bottom of the carb like a Mic ?

cause if it dose you should be able to adjust that needle. as thier should be a small C clip on the needle (its a long needle about 2.5 inches long) with slots in it.

the higher the slot the less gas you get the lower , the more you get.
