Default X2's...700 / 500?

Howdy everyone...

Long-Time reader, first post. Does anyone have a idea why they did not make a 700 X2 for 2009?

I had pretty much decided to buy the 700 X2, but now they do not make it anymore my concern is parts, or the ability for a it to be fixed down the road...

Or should I not be concered and get a 2008 700 X2 for hopefully discounted price?

Thanks!

Polaris made an 800 and 500 X2 in 2007. My guess is that the 800 X2 was so horrible on gas that they tried to offset that with a smaller motor in 2008. Polaris is back with the 800 X2 in 2009. They have no 600 or 700 in the lineup for 2009.

I often wonder why manufacturers make the changes they make.....I don't know why they stopped making the 700 x2, but I can tell you that I have one and I have an 800 and there is very very little difference in power. I mean very little. So, I wonder, why in the world did they even build the 700, why not just the 500 and 800? I wonder if JMR866 is on to something here? It might explain the small difference in price between the 500 x2 and 700 x2.....Hmmmm....

Just got a 700 x2 today. Picking it up tomorrow. They are installing a wench and front brush guard. I had the same thoughts but after talking to the dealer and riding the 700 I really like the 700 better and I'm not a fan of a separate oil tank like is on the 500. Everyone always updates their stuff. I don't have any worry about parts or service. I have a grizzly and they changed to motor there to. I know a couple people who have older polariss and they are able to get parts and stuff for their bikes. I just know I don't want a 800 or a 850 and the 500 is a great bike but I just wanted a little more motor if I ever needed it. I know the you can get a good deal now and I got a free wench and they installed it for free. I don't know how many sites I looked at and how many post I did on this site but the 700 seemed to be the atv for me. Good luck and don't look back

THe reason for dropping the 700 was simply because it did not sale. Nothing wrong with it. The 800 efi was selling in the 8000 range. The 500 was selling in the near 7000 range. The 700 was in the middle and people would opt for the 800 for just a few hundred more bucks. The 800 is a little smoother off the line and way smoother on the trails in high range. The 700 torque range wasn't as good and clutching was never as responsive. The 500 could hang or beat it off the line. The 500 was even smoother on the trails in comparison. (Rider opinions). So the numbers started to fall and they dropped it. The engine is identical to the 800 and the 700 is still in use on the rangers.

I really find that hard to believe.....granted I clutched my 700 before it was broke in, but clutched riding on 27's it is right there with my 800 clutched on 26's. Off the line too. I've ridden a 500, although not toe to toe, but certainly does not even feel close to the power of the 700 or 800. I'm not buyin what yer sellin!

my 05 700 i had would destroy my friends 05 500 in everyway. off the line, from a roll, and just hammering it. just as my uncles 05 800 would eliminate both the 500 and my 700 in the same way. im sorry but the 500 is a great machine, but is not in line, power wise, with the 700 or the 800.

my other friends 98 500 is still going strong though.

Hey thanks for all the information...really helpfull as always.

The free winch...was that something you negotiated for, or a deal they had? My plan is to buy at year end when they are trying to move the 08's out. The 700 will be my first choice it seems, but I will probably get whatever I can get the best price on!
