550 XP FIRST RIDE
#1
Just rode the new 550 XP. front suspension is great, but, wants to push slightly in the corners, not a problem just has not been setup yet. rear suspension is awesome. I don't like the new seat, most MEN will agree with me after they hit a huge bump the first time. love the new speedometer. the footwells are very spacious.
front storage is gone, they will likely lose customers because of this. Before you could fit 1174 golf ***** in the front box. now there is only a radiator cover where the storage use to be, but they still offer the lock and ride goodies.
also revs a little slower than before, think OUTLANDER or HONDA, takes all week to rev up, I bet they do that to help keep the stress down on the drive components, otherwise once its moving the clutching seems to be better than previous s-mans. They say the belt that they use for this is also alot better than in the past.
Needs more fuel on deceleration, sneezes out of exhaust system on hard decel, I say sneeze because its not a full blown BACKFIRE, it could stand a slightly different fuel map. New headlight pod looks like E.T.'s HEAD
I'm sure polaris will address some of these issues before full release, I hope.
That being said, I think it could be solid performing machine. I only rode it for about 20 minutes, if I get more seat time I will spout off about what I think. If anybody has question, will be glad to answer.

There is a polaris engineer that lives by me that has been driving a XP around here for a few months now, its got a cargo box on the rear loaded with various engine recording units, o2 monitors, and such. I really don't like it much, but everything must change.

I believe that it is a single, at least according to the Polaris website.

Oh yeah, scroll down to 550 efi engine, and click on "view details" on the pic. It says single, the 850 says twin.

It says single but they were showing the same engine picture as for the 850 twin. Now they've changed the picture and you can't see if it's a single or a twin. I'm guessing it's a single because that's what the majority of the info says.
The email I got says, "An all-new 550 SOHC Twin EFI engine is also available."
