Default Ground wire

Hey guys let me ask you a silly question i am putting back together a 1995 polaris 400 2x4 that i did not take apart put new engine in it and it runs by pull start but the starter don't work or any of the other lights or fan. I noticed that i do not have a ground wire on the battery i know a car battery grounds to the motor does an atv ground the same also the starter just has one hot wire running to it from the relay is this correct or is it supposed to have more wires thanks a bunch

Default Ground wire

From neg side of battery, should have a wire going to engine case bolt for ground. You can pull start because old models magnetic triggered ignition, battery for starter and lights. Thats why pull staring with dead or dying battery usually pops lights as reg/rectifier power from stator has to go somewhere,if battery not accepting voltage, lights have the least resistance and will go.
