Default starter and bendix

I just got a new bendix and will be putting my quad back together tonight. I bought it beacuase my starter would not engage for more than a quick second. The starter itself was spinning so i thought for sure it was the bendix. Upon removal of the old one, it seems to be in good shape, identical looking to the new one. Anyways i noticed it only engages on about 1/8" of the tooth to the ring gear. I was wondering if maybe theres a proper procedure to space these out correctly with extra washers or something along that lines. Just wondering before i put it together tonight. What do you use for a sealer on the case? RTV silicone?

Thanks

Default starter and bendix

I use liquid gasket for the cover , There is no adjustment on the Bendix I took mine apart and lubed it and stretched out the spring abit so it would retract quicker. Put the new one in and you will be fine but do not throw out the old one it probably can be saved.
