The best mod for the money I would say is a bigger carb. If you port the intake all the better. You can sometimes find a good deal on a carb on the garage thread and on ebay. Good luck. With school also.

a carb would be a great improvement. TM 45 would work good & it uses the same jets as the stock carb. then a cdi would be next.

Thats a really good question you ask. But with a bigger carb it's not just more gas but a lot more air with it, hence the 42mm, 44mm, 45mm and so on. The bigger that # the bigger the exit of the carb for more air flow to match the added fuel. Hope this helps talk you into a new carb. It gives much more seat of the pants power. I've only briefly tried a poorly tuned TM45 on my DS and it way outperforms a Stock Modded carb. Good luck on your shopping. P.S. TM45's are available through Ron Wood, Lectrons give a little more power than the TM and are available through OMW racing. Have fun and hold on!! You will want a CDI at the same time or soon after because the stock one definately limits you.

Except that since your bike is an 04' you already have a higher limiter that is why I choose a carb over a CDI. But a new one will do good for throttle response when you get to that point.

note if throttle stiffness is an issue the the lectron might not be the best idea. do your research cause if not done right you may regret the carb. you get.
