Bizarre electonic problem on Sportsman 500 HO EFI
#1
OK... here's my story, and I'm sticking to it. If you've heard it before, don't stop me 'cause I'd like to hear it again.
I have two Polaris 2006 Sportsman X2 500HO EFI ATVs - both purchaced at the same time, both purchased new. One for her and the other one for her (if I'm nice, I get to ride one once and awhile and maybe get a Scooby snack).
Last week, loaded both into the trailer. Each started on the first turn over - each ran into the trailer just fine. Got to our camp. Went to pull quads from the trailer - last one in would not start, would not give the fuel pressurerizing noise, would not show the instrument panel, would not do a darn thing! Other unit worked fine. Took battery from other (working ATV) and put it into the "not working" ATV - still nothing! Took "none working ATV" battery to a dealer - he said "battery looks fine, problem must be some place else." By-the-way, the dealer wanted $140 and change for a replacement flooded battery (the two I have are sealed). Looked up wireing diagram in an old Clymer's manual (diagram was for a 2006 Sportsmsn 500). Diagram showed NO FUSES, but did show two "SSCB's". I'm assuming that means "solid state circuit breakers" - I could be wrong. I have 12V to the starter solenoid (and can jump it to get the starter to crank), but show nothing at the instrument cluster, ignition switch, lights, etc..
Boy, do I have a lot of questions! Where are the two darn SSCBs? What do they look like? Is there a service manual for the Polaris 2006 Sportsman X2 500HO EFI ATVs... or some other documents that are helpful? What else could be causeing this problem? And many, many more.
Looking for answers. If you don't have an answer... heck, give me your best guess. Until I can get this thing working, it's a very, very big paper weight.
Thanx for you help,
Ben

Is the red button set on run?? (LHS on bars)</end quote></div>
I'm sure it probably is, but I did this once also, and could not figure it out for 10 minutes. Then I saw it and felt like a tool. I don't usually shut it off there, but someone else had moved my X2 and used it. Stranger things have happened.

A lot of us has done it. I had a ridin friend walk up and turn mine on and just looked at me. I also never use it. I think that's why I never thought of it. and Yep. I felt like a tool too.

Hi Boyz,
Ya, checked the red button (several times) - turned it on and off, to the left, to the right, back to center again. However, I haven't taken it apart yet (maybe thet should be the next step?) Didn't try to pull start it (we were camped on sand and it didn't even occure to me to try). Like most of you, I don't use the red button, so it shouldn't be woren out. NOTHING electronic is working. This includes the FI pump - no gas, no go. I can't find any fuses, a bunch of wierd connectors, but no fuse holders. As far as citcuit breakers, what would they look like and where would I find them? Nothing I saw looked like a circuit breaker. I agree that there most be some somewhere, but where?
I removed the small cover under the headlamp - only thing there is a black box called a "4011626 Rev A" (has a bunch more numbers to go with it) I assume (again) that this is the ECU, but without any documentation, all I can do is assume.
Any more ideas?

Your fuse panel is located next to the ECU , assists with component protection such as instrument Cluster/ECU, EFI system , chassis power and accessories . A 10 amp circuit breaker protects the fan circuit .

The relays located next to the ECU assist with component operation such as the fan , fuel pump etc . The fan relay controlled buy the ECU operates the fan . The ECU relay controled by the key switch operates the ECU . The ignition coil and fuel pump relay , controled by the ECU , turns on power for components such as the fuel pump, injectors, etc .

Did you turn the key on? LOL. Sounds like it could be a problem with the ignition switch.
I have a pdf of the 2005 400/500 sportsman service manual but it's 137mb. I also have a 2008 500 sportsman service manual pdf thats 52mb. PM me if you are interested.
