OLD STYLE driveshaft assy with slotted keyway in cv for hilliard assy. From factory wasnt assembled and front cv was wired to shaft to keep from pulling apart before assembly! Has small awd toggle switch below throttle assy, would sometimes push out of bracket! Has 3 chains but still 4 wheel drive capable. If oil pump still working leave alone, pull cleanout plug in muffler, plus check carb needle valve for wear.Sometimes excess smoking is from too much fuel, not oil. Good luck

The oil pump is able to be adjusted,But even if adjusted all the way down pumps adequately! Starter at bottom of motor,NOT the easiest to replace. SEVERAL posts on how some have replace it WITHOUT doing like I do and remove clutches! Starter has a mounting bracket behind clutch backing plate, plus 2 bolts inside case behind recoil assembly also.

Just drive clutch needs a puller, can buy aftermarket, check atv parts supply companies,e-bay,etc.Some members have found right diameter and thread pitch bolts at hardware stores. The front clutch has internal threads that the puller screws into and pops clutch off the tapered shaft. DONT use any puller on clutch sheaths as damage can happen! Complete starter and bracket exposed and easy to get to after clutches removed. SEVERAL posts on starter removal that members have done WITHOUT clutch removal. As I have posted before I remove clutches because I have an atv lift and DONT like fighting starters on the 2-stroke engines!

He meant Trail boss 4x4 250! The good old simple days! The only engine Polaris offered at that time! 2 or 4 wheel drive
