I am in the market for a winch for my sportsman 500. I have been doing a little research but was hoping maybe someone out there can chime in with some "hands on" experiences with the different winches out there. Right now the one I am looking at is the Warn XT15. Anyone have any input? It is much appreciated, I am somewhat new to riding, this is the first ATV I have ever owned and it is time to trick it out.

 

If I were you, I'd go with at least a 2500 pound winch. Not a 1500 like you mentioned. But I do like the Warn part!! Conclusion: Warn XT25!!

 

Go Warn for sure and id agree on the 2500

 

I just put a 3k lb Warn winch on mine. The dealer I called said he had a 2.5 in stock but when I got out there he did not. He gave me the 3.0 for the same price. I haven't used it yet but I installed it myself in a couple of hours - pretty good instructions.

 

I was not sure if the 1500 lb winch would be enough. Thanks for the advice. I will likely go with the Warn 2500 lb. I have not needed one yet, but I got myself in a jam a few weeks back while riding solo and thought to myself, "it sure would be nice if I had a winch right now." Luckily I made it out, but next time I might not be so lucky. I appreciate it guys.

 

i can tell you 1500 is NO where enough for any big 4x4. go w/ the biggest you can afford(at least 2500). most of us like the warn over most others.

 

i have a warn 1.5 on my hawkeye and can tell you that if i knew more about what i was going to use/need it for i would have put a 2500 lb on it. not enough pull at all and to tell you the truth i would probably get a 3000 lb for any full size machine

 

Get at least 3x the wet weight of the vehicle and everything should be good.
