Alright I'm fairly new to the ATV world and I'm looking at buying one. I'm inbetween buying at a dealership or searching the classifieds and internet for a private sale.

I was at a dealership last night and the salesman tells me that he has new in the box CAN-AN 400 MAX. Everyone here most likely already knows this, but the Max has all the extras.
2up, bigger bumpers, upgraded wheels ect........

It is a 2007 and out the door with tax and all he quoted me $7900.00

So is that a fair deal??

maybe if your in canada
i bought an 08 400 with efi max xt for 7400
i would recommend the efi on the 08
and if you can afford it go with a 500 or bigger
the 400s dont have much for the aftermarket which kind of sucks
hope this helps

Thank you, both comments help to give me some insight into the market of these bikes.

I just sold my 2005 (carburated) Outlander 400 Max XT, and bought a new '09 Outlander 650 Max XT.

The power of the 650 is clearly better, but I never lacked for power with my 400, even when plowing with a 60" snowplow blade.

The nice thing about the 650 is the dual A-arm adjustable shocks up front, but that is just icing on the cake. If you have a limited budget, you will not be disappointed with the 400
