New member intro and questions on '98 Magnum
#1
New member here, just wanted to introduce myself and ask a few questions.
Just bought a '98 425cc Magnum 4x4, this is my first ATV or anything of the sort, it had been sitting for a while so I want to know what I need to do to it to get it shipshape. So far I have on the list:
grease zerk fittings
oil/filter change
coolant change
air filter change
breather filter change
fuel filter change
tighten chain tension
figure out why lights don't work
Anything else?
I think I have the tensioning figured out (maybe) and I assume I can use my regular old grease gun for the zerks, any other advice is welcome.
I think I did OK on it, paid $1000. As I said it had been sitting for a while so it wouldn't start, I put in a new battery and plug and it still wouldn't start, another customer there told me he was a Polaris mech. and he took the carb apart, cleaned the jets and reassembled it and it fired right up. He said the engine sounded real good.

Check to see if its charging, hook a multimeter to the battery terminals while its running at like 2000 rpm should show around 14 volts , that may be what happened to lights if it quit charging or was run with a dead battery they will sometimes burn out the lights, if it's not charging its usually the voltage regulator located in front of radiator.
