have a 96 scrambler 400 4x4 and the carb drips fuel when sitting. I pulled the carb and and cleaned it and all the jets,needle and seat and checked to make sure the floats were free and working. My issue now is I want to get a carb rebuild kit but I dont see anything for a 96. I see for 97 and newer. Will a carb kit for a 97+ work??? Is the kit just different size jets or ?? Any info will be helpful.

Also how do you remove the 2 pins from the rear brake caliper. I didnt have time to really look it over but noticed there was nothing to unscrew to remove the brake pads. is there something I am missing here.

 

You need to know what model number of carb you have. Is it a Mikuni? Take a good look at the fuel bowl and see if there is possibly a pin hole in the bowl. This happened on my snowblower and I fixed it with some gas tank repair putty. It has held good for 2 years now. Possible that the float itself has sunk for numerous reasons. Torn "O" ring or gasket for fuel bowl to carb body seal. If it runs good, why bother rebuilding it. Just fix the leak and go riding.

Replace the needle and seat.But you can get a kit from sledpartsguy on ebay with a needle and seat in the kit cheaper than you can get a needle and seat.And yes any yr Scrambler 400 kit will work
On the brakes take theUse a clamp to spread the piston and remove pads. rubber off and there is a set screw under it.

I did have a question. The front right wheel bearing seemed a little tight. So I pulled the cap and checked the bearings. They were fine. My question is when setting how tight the nut is do you set it like a car wheel bearing. Snug it up then back it off a 1/4 turn. When I went full tight it wouldnt turn at all. I just want to make see if this a normal procedure to set the bearing tightness.

 

Yuo really need a manual to set the front bearings.They have to be set JUST right for the 4x4 to work right.
