Default engine oil

what kind of engine oil does everyone use? i just paid $30 for 4 quarts of honda brand 10 w30 and a filter. it cost me more to change the oil in my 4wheeler than it does to change the oil in my 7.3l diesel and it takes 10 quarts. i'm not trying to sound cheap but this is rediculous.

Default engine oil

Start with a couple good oil reads:

Was this oil Honda GN4 (plane Jane petroleum), HP4 (petroleum/synthetic blend), or full synthetic????

First off, motorcycle specific oil needs to have a special additive package, because most quads (except the Honda 450R) share the same oil between the engine and transmission (the trans absolutely thrashes your oil!). So that is going to make it more expensive than car/diesel oils, which (unfortunately!) no longer contain those additives.

Second, even though there are lots of quads and dirt bikes out there, it is nothing compared to the number of cars and trucks, so they just don't sell as much of it. So, you aren't going to get that "high volume" discount you will get with car/truck oils.

You think you spend $$$ on oil??? I happily run nothing but high tech ester synthetics in all my trucks, bikes, and quads.....
