Default 88 warrior 350 wont spark consistently.

i have a 88 warrior 350 and have recently torn it all the way down and rebuilt everything.... yesterday i got it running by pushing it and then dropping it in gear cause the battery was down... not long after it stripped the end of the cam. so i put the old cam back in and adjusted everything and it all works fine, but the plug wont spark while im holding the start button but it will spark one time as soon as i let off of the button?? i did take off the stator and everything but i put it all back the same way it came out and like i said it worked the other day and i didn't change anything. any suggestions as to what makes it not spark?? any help is appreciated
