Default Which camshaft is better?

I'm new to the forums and atv's to an extent. I'm looking into buying a cam for my Warrior. Right now it's pretty much stock except for a big bore with 12:1 piston. I'm trying to figure out what brand of cam is the best. So far I've found Hot Cams & Web Camshafts. I mainly do trail riding. Sometimes I do ride on roads & top it out. Any help is appreciated.

For that piston, or really for any piston, the Webcam .430" 84 grind will really make that engine rev. If you look at the specs of the Webcam and Hotcam, the Webcam offers much more duration and lift. I've had 2 Warriors that I kept for several years with this cam and never had any problems.

My concern is loosing my low to mid range. Will this improve my low to mid range? I saw the dyno for Hot Cams; I like the Stage 1 due to the low range not dropping as it shows that of the Stage 2. I looked for dyno sheets for Webcam, but couldn't find any. Also I've people tell me that its more difficult to install the Webcam compared to the Hotcam. I'm not for sure why the difference. I just want to improve the overall performance of the bike. I am planning on doing the exhaust, carb, and maybe mess around with the sproket some. Anymore suggestions would be appreciated. Also, does widening the a-arms and rear axle really help and how?

If the motor is pretty much stock then you might try the pipe, filter & jetting, forget the cam for now and see how you like it. Widening is great for stability but may be a problem in the really tight trails.

If you lose any low end or mid range, it will not be noticeable. You may lose enough to show up on a dyno, but you will never notice it. Besides, top end is where the Warrior needs help, and the 84 grind will really wake up that engine and let it rev and keep the revs up.

The Webcam needs stronger valve springs and retainers, so that would be why it would be more difficult. This is due to the higher lift and duration. The larger Hotcams also require this, like the stage 3, but I don't think Hotcams makes a stage 3 for the Warrior.

A lot of people think that a big cam with a stock compression piston will cause the engine to lose lots of lower end power. While this may be true some of the time, this was not the case on my Warrior. I had the .430" Webcam installed with the stock bore, stock piston, and the engine performed great. The lower end felt about the same as stock, but it revved much faster and would hold the revs up in the higher RPM range. A few weeks of running the engine like this I installed a 366 CC 10.5:1 compression piston, and the piston really didn't make a whole lot of difference, it helped, but not as much as I thought it would have.

On the Warrior, it would not really be worth it to get wider a-arms and axle. You're talking about spending $700, not to mention different front shocks, because the stock shocks will not hold up to wider a-arms, so that's another $300. The Warrior hugs the ground pretty good anyway, and is a lot better without the balloon rear tires.

Ok, sounds like I'll be getting the Webcam. I do know what you mean about the balloon tires. Those have been long gone. I'm trying to get the parts gathered up; so I can replace everything at once while it's tore apart. I'll let you know how it turns out. Will the carb help any? That will be a later item; I'm just trying to get a feel of everything that needs to be done and price range.

As far as gearing goes, I always liked the 14 tooth front with stock rear (40 I think), and 20" rear tires. This always suited me for my riding style and needs - about the best combo I came up with to maximize low, mid, and top end.

I'm running 20" tires. After I've changed everything I'm changing on the motor I'll tinker with the gears. That way I don't do it twice. Is after market carbs good; If so which one would you reccommend?

I have always ran the stock carb, never had any problems. They say the Edelbrock is the Warrior carb to have, but for $400, it should be. I wouldn't put that kind of money into a Warrior.
