Default Rincon oil, what do you use?

Rincon owners, what oil do you use? Just purchased a Big Red, which uses the Rincon drive train. I prefer synthetics, but the owners manual specifically says NOT to use an oil designated as "energy conserving" in regard to the automatic transmission. This limits the synthetic choices, but after a bit of research, there is Mobil 1 0W-40 which would meet the Honda specs. What do you think?

There are plenty of synthetic ATV rated oils out there, that are rated for wet clutch use, why not just get one of those, instead of taking a chance with an automotive based oil, that is not designed for use in an engine/transmission set up.

The Rincon does not have a wet clutch in the traditional sense, rather a torque converter and automotive style 3-speed automatic (which, I suppose are by definition wet clutches). However, I would be interested in where one can purchase the ATV rated synthetics? We are located in a very rural area, so possibly an Internet vendor?

I think the manual says you can use Honda's HP-4, but make sure you get the formula that says "Without Molly". There was some discussion that Honda might not be recommending their own HP4 in the Rincon, but the service manual still lists it.

Anyway, I would think if you use any oil that meets the specs listed in the manual, and change it at least as often as recommended, you would be fine. I think it calls for API SG or higher, JAso MA.

Been doing a bit of research, and it appears Mobil1 oil specifically for motorcycles, Racing 4T, will do the trick. See what you think.

I have customers out there who will not go to our Honda dealership. They have been using Amsoil 0w-30. I have been stocking the Honda cold climate 0w-30 for them. I keep both brands on stock

I'm still using Honda GN-4 in my 07 Rincon.

Some good reads on oil: http://www.thumperfaq.com/oil.htm

I would recommend Maxima Extra, ester based synthetic. It is motorcycle specific, API SG/JASO MA. Ester is the best there is, and Maxima has the best anti-wear/high-pressure additive package in the business!

I get mine from http://www.onoffroad.com/

Another note, don't switch to synthetic until after break-in. I usually switch at around 10 hours.

Anyone here run the Maxima stuff in a Rincon?

Maybe I'll switch, but would like to know someone else has run it in the unique transmission...
