Bias Ply vs. Radial Tires
#1
Howdy yall,
Just a couple questions in regaurds to bias ply vs radials. I am really looking for a tire that can help my old ladies wolverine 450 handle whooped out trails better. I have tried every suspension setting and aired the tires down about as far as you can safely go, but the machine just teeter-taughters on bumps and bucks like a bronco. She's only about 120lbs which I know is on the lighter side. But it will still do it to a certian extent with my 240lb fat **** on it. It's forsure far worse than my renegade. Any one have exprances to share if going to a bias ply tire would help at all? Or maybe a tire suggestion even? She's not a crazy fast or mud rider, so the tire tread isin't that big of a deal.

If you want to go lower with the tire pressure you can put tubes in the tires, then even at 2- 3 psi they will still hold air. I would think the Radials would be a firmer tire than the regular tires, wrong way to go by the sounds of things.

Well it is not so much an issue with radials you have, it is more of a ply issue......
Stock tires are generally only 2 ply, whereas after market are usually 6 ply (the good ones) in either radial or bias.....
I run radial Maxxis I-Razr's all around on my z400, and everyone who rides it comments on how smooth it rides. And it's not because I have better suspension, or softer settings, it is because the radials with 6 ply, eat small bumps better than a bias ply tire with an equal number (6) of plys....
So no matter which aftermarket you get, radial or bias, they will handle much better than the stockers. I have become a big believer of the radials, at least on the front of a sport machine.... All my buddies run Razr2 tires, and the rears tear things up nicely, but a couple have said they are switching to the I-Razr for the front, since the tread pattern in almost identical to the Razr2 which is a very popular choice for racers too....
I would stick it with a nice set of 6-ply radials.... but a nice set of 6-ply bias will also improve handling and puncture resistance....
