At least on my quad, the check engine light needs to be on to get a flash code. And when you turn the key on the first time, it counts as number one etc... I pretty much have to turn the key 3 times before the pod display lights up completely. good luck man!

yea thats what i figured. i called my dealer and he knew exactly what my problem was (tbap harness) he said for 125$ it can be fixed. i guess ill have it done by them..

my 06 500efi was doing that same thing, but would start right back up until the last time. Everything was dead. Took it to the dealer as it is still under the extended warranty and they found the Power Distrubution Module was bad. Good thing they paid to fix it as it would have cost me around 500 for them to do it. I've never been able to get mine into diagnostic mode either.

The dealer first thought it was the t-bap harness, then the mechanic told me to try and wiggle the wires on the throttle position harness first, and that's what it was. The orange wire (if I remember correctly) goes from the tps to the t-bap. I was getting a code 45 (Barometric Pressure/Manifold Air Pressure Sensor Low). Sure enough it was the harness on the throttle body and not the harness on the air box. When I messed with the wires, the check engine light would go on and off. I was told the problem was Polaris made the harness too short and the wires would vibrate loose or break. The harness for the t-bap(air box) was about $28, and the tps harness(throttle body) was around $36. It's an easy fix no matter what harness your need to replace. The diagnostic mode while in park and turning the key 3 times is the EFI diagnostic mode, to get flash codes when the check engine light is on. The neutral / reverse override diagnostic mode just gives you general info; battery voltage level, AWD Diagnostic Screen, Gear Circuit Diagnostic Screen, & Programmable service interval. Have a good one!

For you guys having trouble getting into Diagnostic Mode try this for retrieving blink codes...Make sure the key is off and the atv is in park...Turn the key on and off 3 times within 5 seconds and leave the key on on the 3rd turn...Look at your pod and you'll see the word "wait" appear...If there are any codes stored they will appear on the screen...The word "end" will appear wafter all the codes have been displayed...Hope this helps...
