Do you use the clutch or not?

Another post I read here makes me ask this question. I have an 87 TRX250X that I use on the trails. Most of the time I'm running hard and I don't use the clutch to upshift. I just let off the throttle and shift. However, I do use the clutch to downshift. Will this hurt the tranny?

Why did the engineers that designed your quad put a clutch on it, if they didn't intend for you to use it????
Think of it this way........If you use the clutch, it isn't going to hurt anything. If you don't use the clutch, it might hurt something, so why not play it safe?????

In my experience the 250x is one of the best alltime trail quads but the trannies are sort of fragile.A couple of my friends had them and the and the third gear went out on both of their quads, and most of them you find on ebay have transmission issues. So just use the clutch and enjoy your great machine!

i would have to agree with everyone else and say use the clutch. how long does it take to pull in that little lever, about half a secind!!!! a guy i ride with has a warrior and he doesnt use the clutch to upshift. he just rebuilt his tranny not to long ago

Some people dont use the clutch and their trannies last forever, some use them and they break 5 times. The main thing is that if you dont cluch you hit the gears in the right rpm range, when i hear people ask why they put a clutch on a bike its a simple thing, you would have to push the quad and jump on to get it moving, all the clutch does is use friction to deliver the rapid motion of the engine to the stationary wheels. In my opinion, you only need the clutch to shift at full throttle, but hey, it doesnt hurt to ride em like the manufactures tell you to.
