Default Moto-4 Basic Questions from a new ATV guy

I inherited a '89 YFP350U(!) Moto-4 back in '02. This is the utility model with the PTO (Power Take Off). They must have sold about three of these since I really don't see much (any) information about this particular model anywhere. It's a 2-wheel drive.

Anyway, I rode it a couple of times back when I got it and since then its been sitting in my warehouse. Now I want to get it going again and I have three questions. If anyone reading this can even answer one of the questions, please do-- I will be most grateful.

1. I need to drain the six year-old gas out of the tank. Anybody know how to do this? Its not readily apparent to me.

2. I'd like to get a shop manual for this model. I have found a manual that covers, among others, the YFM350 2-wheel drive. Anyone out there think that this manual will be sufficient? It doesn't seem like I'll find a manual for the YFP.

3. The fiberglass covers (if that's what they're called) are very faded. How can I best revive them? Auto wax? Please let me know.

As I said, I will very much appreciate any and all suggestions/or input. Thanks...

for draining the gass, turn off petcock and remove the gas tank. there may be some kind of shrouding over the gas tank. (idk about moto4's im just talking ATV's in general). takeing the gass tank off to drain is the best way to get any trash out of the tank, which has probly accumulated over 6years sitting. then wash the tank out a couple times with water before reinstalling.

the atv body should be plastic, iv never heard of a fiberglass one. there are good plastic rejuvinators out there, sorry ikd what they are. if your plastic has gone white its probly toast tho thats photodegradation, there is no color left and its verry brittle.

just giveing you a heads up, it will probly need a carb cleaning too.

good luck! and moto4's are awsome

Cherokee - Thank you. You're right, taking the gas tank off will be the best way to thoroughly clean this thing.

As for the body, of course, plastic. I don't know what I was thinking. It's getting white but it's not real bad yet. I'll try a rejuvenator and see what happens. If you or anyone else out there has the name of a good one, please let me know...

Thanks for the info/advice

ah so im guessing you have a Yamaha Terra-Pro, autozone sells a few good products for renewing plastic, i cant member them. hopefully one of the guys here will come in and tell you but i think you gotta sand, buff, and then polish. but if i were you id get an inline fuel filter after cleaning your gas tank to make sure no more little particles will get into your carb. as for the manual your gonna hate this but the factory service manual is like $80 bucks

you can order your complete tear down and rebuild service manual here.

">"&gt;<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://discountautorepairmanua...ategory_Code=YA

</a>
</a>
</a>

i have one for my quad and it tells you everything. PS, it is like 25 bucks with shipping. screw a yamaha manual.

get some Seafoam. it is a fuel system cleaner. you are going to have to do that because you left gas in there that long. you will be lucky if it does not fudge the carb up. those are a pain in the *** to rebuild.

you can probably find replacement plastic on fleabay.
