crank case vent tube

Default crank case vent tube

how much oil should my crank case hose loose, and what does that mean. i have a filter on my crank case hose and it gets pretty wet with oil. what do that mean, am i close to rebuiled or what. my ds 650 is a 2003.

It's just vapor and with the oil particles that are in it it will attract alot of dirt/dust giving the impression of a problem. It's normal, unless it's actually running out of the hose, and nothing to get alarmed about. Without the filter it would be routed into the snorkel and sucked back into the carb and burned during compression. Would be the same thing except you wouldn't see it.
Alot of us run it under the case and down past the swingarm. Collects dust and dirt there too but nothing to worry with.

I run mine up by the carb with the K&N on it, that way if you get in water, it don't get wet. but I run a carb mount filter so I don't have the snorkel tubes in the way.

Default crank case vent tube

On my old DS, I ran the tube up and over by the oil tank. Did a lot of sand riding and that location kept most of the sand and dirt off the little filter on the end.
