sportsman 800x2 making horrible noise (only 7 mo old, w. 150mi)??

Any comments appreciated
Today I got out my 07 x2 800 for a quick ride, getting it ready for a hunting trip coming up in 2 weeks. It hasnt been ridden in about 1 month. When I took off from a stop at full throttle, it started making a loud bang noise followed by a loud screechy clicking that would last about 3 seconds. It has never done this before. This atv has been used very lightly 150 mi, mostly putting around on gravel roads. I dropped it off at the dealer today but cant imagine what went wrong already. Since it is past its 6 mo factory warranty. It should be covered by the polaris extended warranty I bought (right). Are there any limitations on ext. warranty coverage??
Thanks for any advice

that depends on what is covered vs whats wrong, dont tell them you took off at full throttle, depends on how cool they are,i don't know any other way to take off myself...

A belt problem wouldnt make this type of loud noise unless there was something more involved wrong would it??
This is my first atv, and automatic trans. of any type.
I Have had many dirt toys in the last 20 years but they were always 5 speed mx bikes with clutches, and never had any drivetrain problems.
Any advice appreciated.

No it didnt stop moving. Still drives fine. No power loss or anything. Just makes the noise when you hit it hard from a stop, or slow speed.

Just heard back from the dealer today.
He called me and said he could not get the machine to make any unusal noise. I asked him to run it one more time just to be sure. And was pretty happy nothing was wrong as I had only heard the noise twice on my last brief ride.
Ticket says (service required) When nailing gas from a stopped position unit makes a bang and grinding noise?
(Service performed: Test drove unit (3 miles by the way)
-could not get unit to make grinding noise
-could get it to make clunking noise getting off and on gas which is normal on all polaris twin cylinders
removed clutch cover and inspected belt and clutches
-found nothing wrong
I went to pick up my sp800 and took it for a spin before loading.
Dealer/owner watching me I punched it from a stop, it made the same horrible grinding noise I had described on the first try.
He said let me try mabey its because you are heavier than me. It made the noise repeatedly for him.
Do you think its possible it didnt make the noise on the 3 mile test drive?
He said after hearing the noise it sounds like the rear differential or trans.
I wonder why this went bad w/180 lightly driven miles. It hasent even been in mud.
Any comment appreciated
Thanks Cscotter

If is has been in mud or not shouldn't matter. If the rear diff or trans has failed it is just due to bad luck. Not every part on every machine will last a lifetime, but usually if there is a faulty component they go within the first season (couple hundred miles) of riding. Any good dealer will honor a atv with that low of miles, especially if you have the extended program.

Check the rear diff fluid. I wonder if it's empty.
Check all the fluids, they can speak volumes to.
Come to think of it, I'm sure the dealer already did this..I wonder what they found-out that they arn't telling you......

Noise Update
Heard back from the Polaris dealer today about the grinding noise on my sp800.
He says "a bearing in the transmission exploded or basically came apart"
Says "they are replacing all bearings, shift fork, and a case half that was damaged"
Says "it must have been a bad factory part, its amazing how much damage one loose part will do"
I replied "Its a good thing I got it in to the shop after only hearing the noise a couple of times"
He says "I guess thats one way to look at it, or if you would have waited we would have just replaced the whole transmission"???
This makes me wonder would I have been better off getting a brand new trans. vs. a repaired one??
Sounds like it wont be ready for my annual deer hunting trip. This is my first ATV, and bought it partialy just to have for this trip looks like I will be doing alot of walking Bummer.
Any comments on this repair appreciated
Thanks
