Where do you mount a winch
#1
i have an 03 honda rubicon and im thinking about instaliing one but i took off the stock font bumper bc i didnt like it... So i already have a winch and im very capable of making a bracket or mounthing plate, but the questions is do you mount the winch to the frame or to the front bumper?? Id imagine the frame seeing how its going to be the strongest part of the atv... so if thats the case how do you mount the winch to the fame???

Most winch mounting kits mount the plate to the front push bumper just ahead of the frame where the mounting tubes go back under the fender to the frame. They use straps simular to how windshields are mounted to handlebars. Suppose you could custom make a plate to strap to the frame uprights just above the serial number plate. take a little mfg with the torch and welder though

The two tabs fit over where the frame bolts to the sub-frame that supports the bumper, with longer bolts. Then it U bolts to the horizontal part of that forward subframe.
If you want to PM me an e-mail address, I think I've got some photos of a winch mount plate during the install on my Rincon or Foreman, that I could e-mail...

2 photos sent... You should be able to see what I was talking about- tabs on the rear of the mount plate that get attached to the frame via replacing the bolts to the front subframe with the longer ones...

Where the bolts are on the rear part of the mount plate, that is where the original bolts were that secure that part of the front sub-frame (for lack of a better term) to the main part of the frame.
On the Foreman I used a Warn mount, but on the Rincon I tried a KFI mount after reading good reviews. Turns out the KFI plate is high quality (powder coated w/good hardware and instructions) and a lot cheaper.
What kind of bumper are you using?
