Winch Cable what size to replace with Synthetic?
#1
I know this has been posted, but my question is....What size or gauge if this is applicable. Does the factory installed rolles come off and replace with? I have no idea how this all works. I do know that I plow with my ATV and the cable broke yesterday. I had to take it to the shop to get it cut and a clamp put on $3.00 but the hassle to bring it in.
Thanks

I was able to stuff 75ft of rope on mine when I replaced the cable. I'm pretty sure it's 3/16ths. It is purple if that means anything? All I know about synthetic is that I haven't been able to break it yet! LOL!

Masterpull is another brand of synthetic and I believe has a higher breaking strength...If you have a Warn 2500 be careful when you unspool..Where the rope goes thru the drum is a small button which you're gonna need when respooling the new synthetic...You'll see it when you get to that point....

JCDEYO25,
John,
Can you elaborate more on the installation of the Synthetic rope and this "button". Santa just bought me the rope and fairlead, and I will be installing it soon.
TIA

In the drum their is a tapered hole.Thread the rope threw the small end, then double over the rope.Inside the doubled end place the puck inside pull on the lenght of rope to tighten. Some use a ball bearing in the drums slot.Hope this helps you.
Also i would go with the Amsteel premium Blue.Use a short peice if your plowing.

Thanks guys... think I've got it. Since all I have is the whole 50 ft of 1/4" rope... I guess I'll just use that. I'll keep my eye out for that "button" or "puck" when I get the wire cable most of the way off.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
