Default 2005 Honda Rancher

I have a 2005 Honda Rancher with a little over 200 miles on it and have a problem with the transmission. It is stuck in high gear and will barely move in reverse. Took it to the local honda dealer and they said it needs a new transmission/Honda Matic. Has anyone had any simular problems or know anyone that has had this problem as well?

On 12-17-08, I changed the angle sensor and that corrected the problem. The local Honda dealer wanted $2800 for the repair. Thanks for all the information on this web site.

Your model is the Rancher 400AT, not to be confused with the new Rancher 420AT, which has a completely different transmission.

There are a fair number of posts in here from folks having problems with these. Honda discontinued this model after only a couple years of production....maybe for good reason!

You can try a search, but like you they probably didn't properly identify the model so it may be hard to pick a search term that will work. Maybe you can pm some of the tech guys in here, and get some advice?

Yes, if you need advice and are a little handy with basic tools, PM me and I can have you do some tests to confirm the problem for sure.

Not sure if you received my email from your last responce, but any help would be appreciated. The local Honda dealer wanted $2800 to repair. I am pretty sure the transmission is ok, I think it is an electrical problem.

thanks, Mike
