99 Trail Boss 250 Oil Mix Help
#1
Hey, all. I picked up a 99 Trail Boss 250 4WD. I am leery of assuming the oil pump works as I get this thing going again. I have some Klotz R50, and I need to know some suggestions on what oil/fuel mix I should make, and can I bypass the oil pump as easily as just plugging the oil line heading into the carb? I have previously used this method on a Yamaha - anything different about the Polaris oil injection system?
Thanks for any and all responses...

the best way to disable the injector is take the pump off the motor and there is a shaft that is just inside the hole that is revealed. remove that shaft and put the pump back on the motor. with the pump spinning and it not having any oil going through it, its liable to freeze up on you. more than likely the injector does still work though. the polaris injector systems are the best ones i have seen yet. if you still want to bypass it use a 40:1 ratio

Yes, after some thought, I will verify its status, but will plan on using it. Here's 1 more question. I bought the ATV intact, but the carb was off. GUy told me he just finished a rebuild of the carb, and I just needed to stick it on. However, he told me I needed to go to POlaris and get a fuel filter for it, special he said, around $30, and it had "2 lines". Anyone know what he was describing? Looking at parts listing, I see typical inline fuel filter, of the $3 variety. He said it will run terrible without this special filter. Anyone?
Thanks a lot for quick response, egg.

i use just a regular funnel looking fuel filter from napa on mine. does not affect performance at all.
unless we was talking about the check valve that goes in the overflow tubes.
cant find a parts diagram for it so i will try to explain it.
two lines come down from the top right hand side of the carb. one line "T's" into the other. loose end of the "T" then connects to a check valve. thats the only other kind of filter looking peice that connects to carb. but you still dont need it.
