it happened to me again so i just took the crank case hose and disconnected it so it wont spit out oil into the air box but how can i get this to stop?? just put in an 06 carb in my 03 400ex is that bad??? its running fine but it redlines to much like it wants more. my jets are jetted to an aftermarket exaust and im alll stock is this also bad?? please help me

1. if you are getting oil spitting into the air box, its probably overfilled. drain the oil and replace with a know correct amount, about 1.9Qts with a filter change, so mabe 1.7Qts if you dont change the filter.
2. sounds like you are runnign rich. is there a diffirence between the carbs from an 03-06? you should jet back to stock settings because you are running the carb on a stoch mechine, which is probably way too rich for the mechine

Most likely you rings are shot, and the blowby pressure has nowhere to go but out the breather....and it carries some oil with it. Unless you have just way overfilled on your oil?????

Read about rings here: http://www.dansmc.com/MC_repaircourse.htm
Take it to an experienced mechanic, who can diagnose it first hand!
Also replace the valve guides while you are at it. You any need to rebore it, etc., etc. Might trun into a major rebuild!

Sorry, to bump an old thread but I cam across this and have actually experienced this 1st hand with my 400ex.
The compression was great, it never burned oil but the vent hose from the tranny to the airbox would shoot oil at WOT and nearly fill the airbox.
I checked the compression again after another ride and the result was the same ...airbox full of oil. I ended up taking that hose from the tranny and making a crude air/oil separator under the headlight that would take the excess oil and dump it in the valve cover. Then I took the blow-by from the air/oil separator through a PCV vanve back to the airbox. That solved the problem.
I found out later that there is a seal between the tranny and the block that was bad....
No bad rings.
Just a simple seal bad.
Too bad I had already sold it...
