Default Winch Question

I can't see buying a 12V power winch when I think a hand crank boat pulling winch will work just fine. You know the kind that mounts on the front of a trailer to pull the boat in from the water? Is there any problems with my idea? I only have small sport ATV's so why should I buy an expensive powerfull heavy winch? Not only that but my 87 250X doesn't have a battery.

Default Winch Question

No Battery=No Winch.

All winches require an ATV with a battery to supply power to the winch.
That hand crank is not a bad idea!

Other than being Butt-Ugly it would work.

You can put a battery on a 250X. I put one on my 250R. I was tired of the lights going out at night as I slid around corners with the back end locked up. As I recall someone even made an electic start for the 250X - at one time.

Where can you mount the boat winch that will allow you to turn the crank handle?

Default Winch Question

it will work, but if u think about it the only reason its easy in a boat is cuz the boat is IN water... now try to pull a stuck atv out with it..
