2006 yamaha kodiak 450 4x4 problems
#1
Hey guys ? Anybody out there having problems with there 4wd on there 2006 yamaha kodiak 450? When I press the button for the 4wd to engage nothing happens. No noise , no lights on the dash, nothing. After I do that I press the button for the diff. lock and the diff light indicator comes on as well as noise for it ingaging. The problem is it will not lock into diff. lock because it won't go into 4wd first. Changed 4x4 relays and checked fuses. Any suggestions on what it could be?

I checked the voltage in the connector that plugs into the servo motor and I do have voltage. It is a four pin connector and I have voltage to two of the pins. When I press the 4wd button the voltage switches from one pin to the other, so I'm guessing that is what its suppose to be doing. Still no lights on the dash panel when I press the 4wd button. Not really sure what to do at this point. Any suggestion!!!

Well just to give you an idea what might be involved, this is the troubleshooting procedure for my 05 Kodiak 450. These are the steps listed in the Yamaha Factory Service Manual.
If the gear motor fails to operate, check:
1. Fuse (main, four-wheel drive)
2. Battery
3. Main Switch
4. Four Wheel drive relay 1
5. Four Wheel drive relay 2
6. Four Wheel drive relay 3
7. On-command four-wheel drive switch and differential gear lock switch
8. Gear motor
9. Wiring connections (the entire 2WD/4WD selecting system)
If the gear motor fails to operate, check:

3. Main Switch
4. Four Wheel drive relay 1
5. Four Wheel drive relay 2
6. Four Wheel drive relay 3

I had to take the on command 4x4/diff lock switch off to clean the inside out since my kodiak would not go into 4x4 or diff lock with the servo working. I cleaned the contacts inside the switch, passed emory cloth on them lightly, and placed a little dielectric grease inside and it responded perfectly.

on my 07 i had a very similar problem, turns out a stick went right into the perfect place, and actually ripped the servo motor partially off, i'm still not sure how a stick can aim so perfectly into there and break it, that was only the dif lock though. the 4x4 worked, dif lock didnt, pretty much the opposite, check the servo motor, make sure nothing is damaged. you never know, anything can happen.
