Default plow springs not working well

Well I can't complain seeing on how I got a brand new super winch, a used in great condition Moose plow all for 90 bucks.

Replaced the starter in the sportsman, installed the winch, plow and all the hardware and I am ready to push snow.

But, the springs on the plow are rusted and weak and the plow blade keeps flopping down to much when it hits a slight obstruction.

I already tried the rachet strap idea to hold it with no real luck. I am not about to run out and buy new springs right now.

Anyone have any other fixes for this problem that has worked for them?

thanks for any help.

kinda but without the Eye bolts. I don't want to go out and by more weak *** springs. My driveway is dirt so there are hang ups. I don't wanna have the same problem. I kinda want to toughen it up.

I have had similar problems with my glacier II plow. I just got a set of new springs today. They were on back order for 2 months! Well now I know why. My new springs are twice the size of the old ones. Maybe polaris is finally going to beef up their plow system. I have a gravel drive way also and the old springs were way to weak. I tried the new ones today and they are great. My advice would be to find a heavier spring set at your local hardware maybe. If the springs are to weak they will just be trashed in a days plowing imo.

so I came up with an idea. I went to the cheapo and they didn't have any springs that would work. So instead of ordering online and blah blah I bought two 12 inch lenght of chain with 750 pounds break strenght. I also bought 4 carabeeners <--(sp) one for each end of the chains, and I connected the chains in place of the springs. when the plow is all the way on the ground, there is a couple inches of play but when it meets resistance, the plow can still move until the chains stop it. It works well, so well that now the plow really grabs!!

Your "magic biners" (please pardon the bad pun) should be in the redneck fixes thread. It's a good one. If you found springs that were too short you could clip them on too.

I did think of that, but I was afraid that the spring would wiggle apart from each other and the springs I could find only had a stretch strength of like 40 pounds.

I need something stronger as my driveway is frozen dirt, lots of hang ups!
