Default Newbi- Help rebuild 02' 400ex

Hello all! I am new to the whole quad thing (dirt biker) I recently bought a 2002 400EX for my wife to ride (she's good.) It has the big bore kit, pipes, filter, and all that good stuff. I bought it cheap and it seems to be running vary strong (8 month old rebuild) pre owner didn't get the power he expected out of the rebuild so he bought new......lucky me, not. Engine good but rust and shaky bearings and bushings bad.

I have allready started tearing down the 400ex and am stuck trying to get the rear swing arm/motor mount bolt out, how the heck do you get this out?

What should I replace while it is torn down? Bushings, bearings?????????

I do a lot of wrenching on cars so I am not afraid of tearing this down but am at a loss as to what I need to replace and where to get it. Can I buy a whole kit (bushings and bearings?)

If anyone has any do's and don't please chime in.

Your response is much apreciated.

put a small jack under the engine and lift some tention off the bolt. see if that helps.

tearing it down...it depends on how far. are you talking about tearing the frame down or engine?

you can buy what ever you want for it... check out www.bikebandit.com or rockymountainatv.com there you can get whatever.

let me know!!

The engine is good for now. I am more intersted in "rebuilding" the rest of the quad. I want it to ride like it was new. I am going to get the fram and "A" arms powdered and try to repowder the springs If I can get em off. I want to replace the ball joints on the A arms and bearings in the swing arm ect.

I bought her new plastics (silver) and a new seat, when I took old ones off I noticed that the quad was kinda a pice of sh** So here I am trying to rebuild it while she doesn't suspect a thing and I am hitting a brick wall...LOL.

Sweet! Why did honda do the grey????? I am guessing you had no issue with the rear engine/swing arm bolt. LOL. I will do more research and post up a plan of attack.
