Elictrical fault - Help please
#1
I have a cheaper type 250cc chinese atv, which I have used for 6 months without any problems, but not anymore.
I used the bike with the lights on, and after riding for about 20mins the lights went dead, but I continued to drive as normal (the bike does not have an electronic display, so I am not sure if the whole electric circuit died at that point). I stalled the bike later, but when I tried to start it again, there was nothing. Not even a click from the starter, and no lights, horn or anything.
I have checked the battary with a multimeter, and it is good. Checked the fuse, and it is good. Checked all the earth connections and they are fine. All connections have been checked with no loose wires or connections. I have 12V going to the Starter relay and ignition. I have 12v feeding into the rectifier/regulator, but not sure how to check for output with multimeter (I do not have a lot of auto electrical experience).
What could cause the bike to have died completely, but the engine still ran fine when it was going? Could the rectifier/regulator be the problem? Any help please!!!

Check the ground wiring. The ground lug could have burned off or got loose where it hooks to the frame or motor. The engine kept running after the lights went out because the engine electrical was running off of the alternator, which is a good sign that it still works.
