I have a year 2000 polaris 5 speed. My atv is
150 miles north right now but I think I remember the little black box your talking about. I dont know too much about it yet, but
it hasn't been a problem. I have had my atv real mudding quite a few times to.

Hey Boner,
I know what your saying. That has been the only problem on my bike. It controls a lever going into the transmission, actuated by the reverse overide button. It prohibits shifting into reverse without hitting the button. I suppose it has to be close to the case, without some kind of linkage. Mine failed after only a month or so. It would engage, but not always disengage. I'm sure it was full of dirt/mud. If it hadn't been under warranty I just would have pulled the cover and cleaned it. They told me it had been superceeded and replaced it. The new one is sealed much better. Have put it through alot more than the previous one, and (so far) not given me any trouble.
