From what I read about the 01s, I would avoid it. If the guy has had the tranny rebuilt and the throwout bearing replaced, maybe he has taken care of the achilles heel of that year. On the other hand, I have done those repairs and more to my 02. I haven't been thrilled with the reliability of mine but when its running right, great ride. Somebody in this economy has got to be in trouble with a 700 raptor with efi, I would shoot for one of the efi 700s, so much better than carburation.

Big bores give good power but one who has been bored that much will cause problems if you have to rebuild it then you will have to sleev the piston cuz you maxed out the cylinder bore and 01 have had production issues with the tranny

A 686 Raptor built by a reputable builder is very reliable. But the 01' models had problems with the tranny, and the starter one way going out. If those have been addressed, and the guy can provide you some info on who did the build and who put the motor together then maybe. But I wouldn't risk it if he can't give you a full report on the work done.
