Yup the 2 long bolts that connect the motor to the rest of the winch backed themselves out....It's a warn 2.5ci....I put some loctite on the threads when I put it back together....I never had it apart before, the end cap came off the motor and one of the 4 springs in there went flyin...Luckily i found it...kinda tricky getting it put back together but I look at it as a learning experience...just thought I'd let you guys know to keep an eye on those bolts...thanks for readin....

Thanks for the heads up. Just goes to show you that all winches can fail.

Does this mean we're going to get into another "winchoff"? I sure hope not! Getn tired of the winch debate......LMAO!

No that wasn't my intent......I've had great luck with it.....I just hope the loctite doesn't haunt me down the road if I ever need to get in there again.......I think I'll be alright...

Red locktite needs some heat or real torque to get the bolts loose.
Blue thread locker is a bit more mild but will hold the bolts in in most cases.

Wow, good info. I have the same winch! I know when I installed it
both times (first time on my former SP450 and now have it on my SP800
after I traded up) those bolts that hold the winch to the polaris mount
are those hex 1/2 that just go thru the frame threads. I DIDN'T feel
secure about leaving it that way, so I added the nuts behind it, pain to
get behind it but nice and tight to keep the assembly from flying off.

Now the winch motor bolts to the mount plate? Geez, thanks for the info.
I will added this on my TO-DO, man will I ever get a free weekend? LOL

Not to get too far off topic but I know exactly what you are talking about R...those self tapping bolts that just screw into the holes in the frame..doesn't give me the warm and fuzzy either.
I was glad to see on the XP the winch mount bolts come in from the sides and there are "nut plates" in place to screw the bolts into...
The brush guard mounts are self tapping though..I added nuts to the backside of those just like you did to the winch.
