Tips on installing Moose Heated Grips on the new Polaris XP
#1
Hello,
I'm wondering if any of you have installed the Moose Winter Pack Heated Grips on your Polaris XP, and if so, what is the easiest way to pull off the original grips, and I'm curious as to where you hooked up your electrical connections.
Thank you,
Pete

I put heated grips on my 05 Sportsman. To get off the factory grips, take a utility knife, slice, and peel off. Easy as that!
Electrical connections. Inside the headlight pod. Take the top off, turn the key on and find a wire with power (make sure it then DOES NOT have power when the key is off) and splice into that. Find a ground, and away you go! If I remember right I used the ground and power wire for my 12v accesory. Easiest way to splice in is with some of those clips that you just put both wires in, pinch down and close the cover.

Slikjr is right on the money. If you cut off the old grips, make sure not to cut too deep and gouge the bar as that can cut the heat tape of the heated grips. You can also blow them off with an air compressor. That works great for taking them off and putting them on.
I made my electrical connection the same as slikjr, using the 12v accessory wires. You can play it safe and install an inline fuse for extra protection, but I personally am not worried about it.
Congrats on the grips, you will like them!
Oh, did your grips come with the black on/off low/high switch, or the big ugly box? Mine came with the black switch which I drilled a hole in the pod and mounted so it looks factory, pretty nice.

To get the grips off, you can either cut them off or use compressed air. They are not glued on.
The electrical connection is under the little hood in front of the handlebars. Make sure you have some torx tools. I think you need 25 and 27. There are 3 connections there. I have some pics on nyroc if you do a search there. All 3 connections are fuse protected to my knowledge. They are on there for the heated grips, PIAA lights, and winch.
I put the Symtec system on mine(they make the moose winter pack). If you anymore questions, just let me know.

Yeah, as firehog said, get a decent looking switch. I have the same round one, with a high-off-low configuration. Just drill the appropriate sized hole and slip it in. Looks factory for sure! Very clean and easy install.

It sounds like ironbear has the premium system with the 5 heating levels. This is the one I have also and it works very well. I have read about all kinds of switches failing. Luckily Symtec is a great company and stands behind their products. I know of several, including myself that have received replacement parts or even the whole system for free from them if something fails. Great service and a great product!

I plugged one end of the grips and then used compressed air on the other end to get the grips off. That way if you need them again you have them. Do the opposite to get the new ones on. The dealer told me that was how they do it. As mentioned earlier make sure your hot wire is only on when the key is on. I think I wired mine to the 12v accessory.

Thanks guys. I would like to do the compressed air method to salvage the factory grips but unfortunately, I do not have electricity in my garage so that would be impossible. Are there other ways (besides cutting the grips) to remove them?
Thanks.
Thanks.
