Tips on installing Moose Heated Grips on the new Polaris XP

Try getting them heated up with a blow dryer to make them more pliable and then try to pulll off. Also if you get one edge lifted, you might be able to get some WD-40 with a spray straw in there to help them slide off. Good Luck.

Compressor is def the way to go if you have access to one. Be sure to use plenty of WD 40 when you put the new grips on. I just installed mine over the weekend and wired it off the 12volt accessory plug. Mounted the varialbe switch right off the the screw on the headlight pod. You'll be pleased with them. good luck

I put the Symtec's on mine which are basically the same as the Moose I believe...Before installing I soaked the grips in hot water for a bit to soften them up and used wd-40 on the bars...That's very helpful.......Just remember to know where you want the wire from the grip to end up so you can have that close to being lined up when you push the grips on....Try to push relatively quickly and don't stop until they're all the way on.....good luck....You'll love them...I mounted my controller on my left handlebar (pic in gallery) but I've seen guys mount it to their pod like muddawg139 said....

Thank you for your replies. I'm going to mount the controller on the handlebar (most likely), and as for pulling the grips off, I may get a portable air compressor tank to see if that works, if not, I will try your method with the hot water and wd-40 because I do not want to cut the grips, because I may need to use them at some point. For what, who knows.
I'm going to install them this weekend, and I will be sure to let everyone know how I made out.

The directions for mine were very clear and thorough.....Just to clarify, I used the hot water to install the new ones not to remove the old ones...It suggested it in the directions.......I also put a small strip of non skid tape under the bracket for the handlebar to prevent slipping and it has been pretty good so far...goos luck..

The only thing I would caution you with handle bar mounting, not that you ever would, but on the off chance you roll it, there is not much to protect that plastic fragile little control box from permantly dislodging itself. Just a thought.

I'm fairly new to the atv world, but I've ridden motorcycles for over 30 years. I visited the forum for info on hooking up heated grips. I really appreciate everyone's advice on wiring, switches, etc. I noticed a lot of opinions on getting old grips off and new ones on. This method works great for me:
Run a slim screwdriver inside a grip, then slip the spray tube from a WD40 can in the gap between the handlebar and grip. Shoot some WD40 in there - more is better. When you pull the tube and screwdriver out, you should be able to twist the grip around on the handlebar until it is loose enough to remove. Clean the grip (if you're keeping it) and the handlebar with degreaser or soapy water. Pour some soapy water into the new grip (I always keep a small spray bottle of water with a few drops of dishwashing liquid in my shop). The soapy water will act as a lubricant while you install your grip, then dry and form a mild bond, helping the grip adhere to the handlebar. This is the only method I've used for years and it's proven fast, easy, and secure on heavy street bikes where it has to work. I've used it on my 4-wheelers and it seems to be just fine there as well. Hope this helps.

your like me. i installed my hand warmers last nov/dec 08' in my storage shed. i knew at the time the compressed air to get the grips off work. but i didnt have a tank. so i ended up takeing everything off my handel bars. then i brought my handel bars to a local shop that had access to a compressure and a blow gun. took all but 30 seconds to get them off, and reinstalling them was easy also. soap and water. slide right on. thenwait tell it drys..

I put the Moose heated grips on my 800 touring and slice off the "old" actually they were still new and WD-40 as directions said they easly slid on no problem what so ever! But I get wd in a gal. container and use a spray bottle to apply it! So I may use a tad more than most!
