Died Twice...Sportsman 700 EFI
#1
Finally got out on the first good long ride yesterday to test out the (used) 2006 Polaris 700EFI.
Nice machine.
2 problems.
JRA (just riding along) went over a very small bump and the bike loses all power...dead.
turn off the key, turn it on fires back up and away i go. bothered but on my way.
JRA and bike dies but this time i do not lose power. watch the rpm gauge go to zero. shake my head turn off the key. turn it on bike fires up no problem.
does anyone have any idea why it would do this?

sounds like you have a short somewhere and when you jar the machine just right it makes that short well short out. i would check over every connection, ground, and scrutinize every wire to see if there is a problem. would even do a continuity test on all wired just to make sure they havent broke inside the insulation and cant see the problem

EXACTLY what I did not want to hear! Still under warranty but the stealer is worthless and i am affraid will do more damage than good. i can hear it now... we checked all the wiring but could not find a problem. if it happens again bring it back...
this would be after they poke and prod every single wire and connection which will be a GUARENTEE for future electrical problems after it corodes good.

do you have any type of key chain or anything like that hanging from your ignition key ?????????????? if your answer is yes you may have found your problem</end quote></div>
I have a very small plastic key ring with no other keys on it.

Had the same problem with mine. It wound up being the connection for the ECM plug located under the access cover beneath the headlight pod. Plug would disconnect and the machine would go completlely dead. I wire tied it together havent had a problem since. Maybe a place to start.

thanks. great place to start since the stealer just put in a new asm and did not do it properly. you are probably right. thanks

They hook up the onboard computer to their master computer in the shop and reprogram it to compensate for what ever the problem is. In this case it would be the equivalent of re jetting a carburator.
Not a big deal, alot of electronics these days get "reflashed" or if youre familiar with computers, its like a driver update.
Hope this helps
